Desktop source and distribution
Two clear licensing paths.
LitScenes Community is genuine open-source software under AGPL-3.0-only. A separate commercial license is available when an organization needs proprietary distribution or embedding.
This page is an explanation, not a replacement for the applicable license text. The unmodified AGPL text included with the Community source controls that distribution.
LitScenes Community
The Community desktop source is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License version 3 only, identified by SPDX as AGPL-3.0-only. It may be used commercially, sold, modified, and redistributed when the AGPL is followed. Applicable distributions must provide Corresponding Source; modified network deployments must offer the applicable source as the license requires.
The Community build has a distinct name, bundle identifier, icon, preferences suite, and local data directory. Its exact source location is shown inside the app.
Official LitScenes builds
Official signed or notarized builds may be offered separately by the rights holder under a commercial EULA. They may include official branding, update infrastructure, managed integrations, support, and proprietary service connections. Their distribution remains subject to third-party dependency and contributor-license obligations.
Commercial licenses
A separate commercial license is available for proprietary distribution, embedding LitScenes in a closed-source product, private white-label builds, or modifications that will not be distributed under AGPL-3.0-only. The commercial license is not required merely because an AGPL-compliant use is commercial.

What is separate
- Hosted generation, billing, orchestration, private model routing, premium workflows, and operational infrastructure are not included merely because the desktop source is available.
- The public catalog service has separate access terms. Community source includes a small metadata fallback; uncached image previews still require catalog access.
- The LitScenes name, logo, icon, and official-build identity are subject to a separate trademark policy.
- The website, official brand assets, and private monorepo are not covered by the Community desktop license.
Ownership and contributions
Kevin Riggen is the current owner of the LitScenes desktop software and marks. Oʻahu Mushrooms LLC d/b/a Oʻahu A.I. operates the hosted services, SMS program, billing, and support. Outside contribution intake is closed until an attorney-approved contributor agreement is operational; contributors will retain copyright while granting the rights needed for both AGPL and commercial licensing.
Source publication status
The clean Community repository is being prepared at github.com/litscenes/litscenes. No source URL should be treated as published until that repository exists and the release’s exact commit is reachable. No AGPL-distributed build will be released before its exact Corresponding Source is reachable.
